Private Istanbul Guide & Custom Walking Tour

Istanbul does not always need a fixed itinerary.

Book a private licensed guide for a few hours, half a day or a full day and explore the city according to your interests, pace and available time.

From the historic peninsula to Galata, Pera, the Bosphorus and neighbourhoods beyond the standard sightseeing routes, we can shape the day around what you actually want to see.

Already in Istanbul? Short-notice guiding may also be possible depending on availability.

Description

See Istanbul with Someone Who Knows the City

A private guide should give you more than a list of monuments.

Istanbul is a city where neighbourhoods, buildings, streets, food, religion, trade and everyday life constantly overlap. A few hundred metres can take you from Byzantine remains to Ottoman architecture, nineteenth-century European quarters, old harbour districts and the modern city.

We organise private guided walks in Istanbul for travellers who prefer to explore the city at their own pace rather than follow a fixed group itinerary.

You can book a guide for a few hours, a half day, a full day or ask us to design a longer programme according to your interests.

A Private Istanbul Tour Built Around You

There is no need to choose a standard sightseeing package if that is not what you are looking for.

Tell us how much time you have and what interests you. History, architecture, archaeology, food, neighbourhood life, photography, the Bosphorus or simply understanding how Istanbul fits together can all become the starting point of the day.

Your route can include well-known sites, quieter streets or a combination of both.

The purpose is not to visit the maximum number of places. It is to use your available time well and see the parts of Istanbul that are meaningful to you.

Half-Day or Full-Day Private Guiding

Not every traveller needs an eight-hour tour.

If you already have plans in Istanbul, a private guide for three or four hours may be enough to understand one particular part of the city in greater depth.

A half-day walk can focus on one geographical area, while a full day allows different districts and themes to be combined more comfortably.

We can also arrange several separate guiding sessions during your stay rather than placing everything into one long day.

Old Istanbul: Sultanahmet & the Historic Peninsula

If this is your first visit to Istanbul, the historic peninsula is often the natural place to begin.

Depending on your interests and available time, the walk may include the surroundings of Sultanahmet, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments, historic streets, bazaars and the urban layers that developed around them.

Rather than treating each monument as an isolated stop, a private guide can help connect the sites to the broader history and geography of the city.

Galata, Pera & Beyoğlu

Istanbul is much more than the historic peninsula.

Galata, Pera and Beyoğlu reveal a different side of the city: Genoese connections, nineteenth-century urban transformation, embassies, churches, passages, commercial buildings and streets that reflect Istanbul’s long relationship with Europe and the Mediterranean.

If you prefer to explore this area independently, you can also discover our self-guided Istanbul walking experience through Pera and the Bosphorus or Old City to Walls Routes.

The Bosphorus and the City Between Two Continents

The Bosphorus is not simply a viewpoint or a boat ride. It has shaped Istanbul’s geography, settlement patterns, trade and daily life for centuries.

A private day can combine walking with neighbourhoods along the Bosphorus, public transport, ferry crossings or other arrangements depending on your interests and available time.

If a boat journey forms part of your plans, tell us in advance and we can discuss the most suitable way to integrate it into your day.

Already in Istanbul?

You do not need to organise your guide months in advance.

If you are already staying in Istanbul and decide that you would like professional guiding for the following day — or even later the same day — contact us.

Availability cannot always be guaranteed at short notice, particularly during busy periods, but we will check whether an appropriate licensed guide is available.

This makes the service useful not only for travellers planning Turkey from abroad, but also for visitors who are already in the city and want to make better use of their remaining time.

More Than a Standard Checklist Tour

Some visitors want Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. Others may already have visited them.

You may be more interested in neighbourhood history, Byzantine remains, Ottoman architecture, nineteenth-century Istanbul, local markets, the Bosphorus, food culture or simply walking through the city with someone who can explain what you are seeing.

Tell us what you have already visited. We do not need to take you through the same places again.

Walking at Your Own Pace

A private tour allows the pace of the day to be adjusted to you.

You can stop for coffee, spend longer at a particular site, change the emphasis of the walk or shorten the day if necessary. Families, older travellers, photographers and visitors with specific interests often find this flexibility more useful than following a fixed group programme.

Meeting at your hotel or another convenient location in central Istanbul can usually be discussed when arranging the programme.

Need Transport as Well?

Not every Istanbul day needs a private vehicle, and much of the city is often better understood on foot and by public transport.

However, if your itinerary requires private transportation, an airport connection or more complicated logistics, tell us when you contact us. We can arrange guiding and transportation separately or combine them when appropriate.

If Istanbul is only one part of a longer journey in Turkey, you can also explore our private tours, walking experiences and travel services across Turkey.

Guided or Self-Guided?

If you enjoy exploring independently, you may not need a guide for every day of your stay.

One option is to spend your first day with a private guide and continue independently once you understand the city’s geography and transport system.

Another is to combine professional guiding with one of our self-guided Istanbul walking routes.

We are happy to suggest the combination that makes sense for the way you prefer to travel.

What Should You Tell Us?

When contacting us, it is useful to send:

  • Your preferred date
  • Number of participants
  • Where you are staying in Istanbul
  • How many hours you would like a guide
  • Places you have already visited
  • Any particular historical, cultural or local interests
  • Your preferred language

If you do not know exactly what you want to visit, that is also fine. Tell us how much time you have and what interests you, and we can suggest a suitable programme.

Questions? Tell Us What Kind of Istanbul You Want to See

You do not have to choose a ready-made itinerary before contacting us.

Send us a message, fill in the enquiry form, or contact us through WhatsApp or e-mail. Tell us when you are in Istanbul, how much time you have and what you are interested in, and we will be happy to discuss a private guiding programme that fits your stay.
