Description

Discover Eastern Turkey on a Private Kars Hiking Tour

Our Kars hiking tour is a four-day private walking journey through the lesser-known valleys, rural landscapes and pine forests of northeastern Türkiye.

Beyond the familiar cultural landmarks of Kars lies a remarkable landscape of open plateaus, deeply cut valleys, streams and mountain forests. This journey gives you time to explore that landscape on foot.

Rather than travelling between monuments, we follow selected countryside trails, discover the region’s natural character and experience the changing scenery between Borluk, Susuz and Sarıkamış.

We design each departure around your walking experience, interests and preferred pace. This is a guided hiking experience, not a conventional sightseeing tour.

Why Choose Our Kars Hiking Tour?

Borluk Valley: Landscapes and Ancient Traces

Borluk Valley offers an unusual combination of natural scenery and archaeological heritage. The valley contains streams, rock formations and traces of prehistoric human activity.

Walking through this landscape introduces a side of Kars that many visitors never experience. We focus on the valley environment while respecting archaeological areas and local access restrictions.

Susuz Valley: Walking Through Open Country

The countryside around Susuz offers dramatic valley scenery, rural paths and expansive views across the northeastern Anatolian landscape.

Several documented walking routes connect villages, valleys and the wider Susuz area. We select suitable stages according to the group’s experience, route conditions and available time.

Sarıkamış: Forest Trails and Mountain Air

After the open landscapes around Kars and Susuz, Sarıkamış introduces a different walking environment.

Its extensive pine forests and mountain terrain provide opportunities for guided nature walks. We choose suitable trails according to seasonal conditions, local access and the group’s abilities.

Beyond Hiking: Rural Life and Local Encounters

Walking is also a way to understand the countryside and the people who live there.

Where arrangements allow, we include opportunities to experience regional food, village life and the traditions of northeastern Anatolia.

We do not promise specific household visits or local encounters without prior confirmation.

Who Is This Private Kars Hiking Experience For?

This journey suits active travellers, couples and small private groups who enjoy walking in less-visited landscapes.

It is especially suitable for visitors who want to explore Eastern Turkey beyond the conventional archaeological and cultural itinerary.

For travellers whose main interests are the medieval city of Ani, historic Kars and Boğatepe’s food heritage, we recommend our separate Kars and Ani private heritage walking tour. This five-day cultural journey focuses on archaeology, architecture, local traditions and shorter walks rather than a hiking-focused programme.

Explore More of Eastern Turkey

Our private journeys can be adapted to your interests and available time. If you would like to combine several regions, ask us about a longer tailor-made experience connecting Eastern Anatolia with the highlands of the Black Sea.

Explore the Walking Routes of Kars

Kars offers a wider network of walking routes than many travellers expect. Valleys, village paths and forest landscapes provide opportunities to discover the region beyond its best-known cultural attractions.

For additional information about documented trails, explore the Kars hiking trails and walking routes. This regional resource introduces walking opportunities across different parts of Kars.

To learn more about the area’s natural and archaeological landscape, visit the Borluk Valley information page on the Türkiye Culture Portal.

These resources provide useful background for planning a walking holiday. However, published route descriptions do not replace current trail checks, local access information or professional route planning. We confirm suitable walking stages before finalising each private itinerary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this Kars hiking tour suitable for beginners?

It depends on your walking experience and the selected routes. We can discuss shorter or less demanding stages, but some trails involve uneven ground and require suitable footwear.

How many days do I need for hiking around Kars?

Four days allow time to explore selected walking landscapes around Borluk, Susuz and Sarıkamış. Longer journeys can be designed for travellers who want additional hiking days.

Are the hiking distances fixed?

No. We confirm walking distances after selecting suitable routes and reviewing current access and trail conditions.

Can we walk to Susuz Waterfall?

A documented walking route connects the Keçili area with Susuz Waterfall. Whether we include it depends on the final itinerary, trail conditions and your walking preferences.

Does this tour include Ani?

Ani is not part of the standard hiking-focused itinerary. Travellers primarily interested in Ani and the cultural heritage of Kars should explore our Kars and Ani private walking tour, which focuses on archaeology, cultural heritage and local experiences.

Can we combine this hiking tour with a cultural journey?

Yes. We can discuss a longer tailor-made itinerary combining walking days with selected cultural experiences, depending on your available time.

How much does the private Kars hiking tour cost?

As this is a bespoke private journey, pricing depends on your travel dates, group size, accommodation preferences and selected services. Please contact us for a personalised quotation.

Where does the tour start and finish?

We propose Kars as the starting and finishing point. The final arrangements depend on your arrival and departure plans.

The final walking stage will depend on your flight schedule, local access and confirmed route conditions.

Day 2 – Keçili & Susuz Valley Walking

Today, we focus on the countryside around Keçili and Susuz Valley.

The area’s documented walking routes pass through rural landscapes and valley scenery. We select a suitable stage based on the group’s experience and current trail conditions.

Along the way, discover the relationship between villages, streams, pasturelands and the wider landscape.

We will confirm the exact walking route, distance and transport arrangements before departure.

Day 3 – Susuz Waterfall & Alternative Valley Trails

Continue exploring the wider Susuz region.

Depending on the previous day’s route, we may select a different walking stage towards Susuz Waterfall or another suitable trail in the area.

Our aim is to offer a varied walking experience rather than repeat the same valley section.

The final route will be selected after checking trail overlap, access conditions and seasonal water levels.

Day 4 – Sarıkamış Forest Walking & Departure

Discover the pine forests of Sarıkamış on a guided nature walk.
